41: What You’re Doing

Posted on | July 26, 2009 | 8 Comments

Until just a month or two ago, I thought that What You’re Doing was a piece of crap on par with I Don’t Want to Spoil the Party and Little Child.

I have no idea what the fuck I was thinking.

Probably, I was thinking that it was on Beatles For Sale, which is largely crap as an entity, and that I’d only listened to it in passing. In any case, while not exactly a pop music masterpiece, this song isn’t just catchy, it’s also quite good. I mean, you can only get so catchy before it just has to be good and there’s no possible other explanation. Paul pulls out some excellent vocals, that guitar lick is as infectious as hell, there’s two or three hooks here, and those opening drums? Damn. Filler it may have been, but it’s some fucking good filler.

Quite tempted to sample that drum loop, it’s tight. Poor, under-rated Ringo.

I did indeed. Totally agree, he just rides the groove without getting too flashy. Quality :)

Cara’s internet went out, so she can’t finish the blogathon. She texted to Twitter what was going on. Just letting folks know that she didn’t just bail.

I’m posting this because Cara has no internet right now, and she requested it via Twitter.

Due to the shit heads at Time Warner, her internet went down, and she can’t continue blogging for the Blogathon.

Hopefully her internet does come back up, but she doesn’t seem hopeful.

Hope that was okay. Sorry about your internet. :-(

Two hours to go. Three more posts. You’ve done great, just a bit further!

I think most of us consider Beatles For Sale to be their weakest link, despite its containing some excellent material.

No Reply, I’m A Loser, Eight Days A Week and I Don’t Want To Spoil The Party would have made a hell of an EP, with Baby’s In Black and Everybody’s Trying To Be My Baby an auxiliary single.

The rest of it I’m really iffy on, although both “What You’re Doing” and “Every Little Thing” have very strong percussion tracks from Ringo.
